City Nature Challenge
April 28, 10:00 am –1:00 pm
Suggested Ages: All, Adult Friendly
Join Genspace (a community biology lab in Brooklyn) for an adventurous morning of activities and learning for kids of all ages. Expert naturalists lead walks to collect data on birds, insects, fungi, and plants at the Cemetery for the City Nature Challenge every half hour between 10:30am and 12:30pm. Microscopy activity stations will offer an opportunity to view nature up close.
At 11am, Clarinda Mac Low and Carolyn Hall, Genspace creative programs coordinators and the creators of Sunk Shore, will lead a 45-minute time-traveling walking experience about how the climate crisis affects the trees at Green-Wood.
Every year, for four days, people in cities across the world join together to find and identify as many species of wildlife as possible. To participate, all you need is a smart phone with a camera and an iNaturalist account to photograph wildlife at Green-Wood and contribute to one of the world’s largest citizen science projects.
