🎟 $50-$320

Suggested Ages: 6 to 14+, Adult Friendly

Experience the lavish New York City Ballet Nutcracker that started the Nutcracker craze in the US in 1954, featuring exquisite costumes, magnificent sets and top-notch dance talent. See twirling snowflakes, leaping candy canes, waltzing flowers, and so much more to Tchaikovsky’s iconic score (played live by a full orchestra).

Pricey but priceless; wait until your kid is able to sit very still and quiet for the whole hours. Many of the audience members are grown ups who expect a quiet viewing experience. The New York City Ballet Family Saturday: A Nutcracker Adventure is a shorter, cheaper option.

🐭 The 49-minute first act is full of action with (actual) children playing at a party, mischievous giant mice battling toy soldiers, a magical growing tree and a blizzard of ballerinas.

🍬 Favorite treats like hot chocolate and candy canes come to life in the 41-minute second act set in the spectacular Land of Sweets. Kids can get restless during the long, slow (but spectacular) pas de deux.

🖼 Look for art and fun digital experiences throughout the sumptuous lobbies and get snacks before the show and during the 15 minute intermission.  Don’t miss the chandeliers retreating to the ceiling in the gorgeous jewel box theater right before the show starts.

🎻 Walk down to the orchestra pit and say hi to musicians.

🩰  Learn some of the delightful Balanchine choreography at children’s workshops before select performances.

📚 Prep for the ballet with gorgeous picture book The Nutcracker by New York City Ballet with illustrations that mimic George Balanchine’s choreography and the scenery from the actual production.

🎟 Save money on service fees by buying at the Lincoln Center box office. Prices vary by date and time; Wednesday matinees are the best deal.

Start time varies from 1 pm–8 pm
