Wear your favorite hat (or make a special one) and stroll down traffic-free Fifth Avenue to check out classic and crazy Easter bonnets and ensembles in a New York City tradition that stretches back to the 1870s. The parade – not an organized procession, just masses of creative, crafty fashionistas – is on Fifth Avenue from 49th Street up to 57th Street.

It gets crowded as the day goes on (try to leave strollers at home), but still one of our favorite iconic NYC events. Beyond the finery, look for live music, swing dancing, hula hoop performances and other festivities at this community celebration.

After the parade, stop by Rockefeller Center for food and floral-bedecked sheep.
